ETHP: Eco Techno Healthy Product

Ecolabel is a labelling system for consumer products (including foods) that are made in fashion to avoid detrimental effects on the environment. Usually both the precautionary principle and the substitution principle are used when defining the rules for what products can be ecolabelled. Many (but not all) ecolabels are not directly connected to the firms that manufacture or sell the ecolabelled products. Just as for the quality assurance labelling systems it is of imperative importance that the labelling entity is clearly divided from and independent of the manufacturers. All ecolabelling is voluntary, meaning that they are not mandatory by law.

Ecolabelling systems exists for both food and consumer products. Both systems were started by NGOs but nowadays the European Union have legislation for the rules of ecolabelling and also have their own ecolabels, one for food and one consumer products. At least for the food the ecolabel is nearly identical with the common NGO definition of the rules for ecolabelling.

Many of the food ecolabels follow the recommendations from the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements, that started in the 1970s.

ETHP: Education Through Historic Preservation

ETHP is designed to incorporate the strengths of the school and community and uses the natural and built environment as educational resources. It has always integrated curricula and grade levels and has always related what is taught to real world situations. It organizes the curriculum in a manner that exploits the connection of art and architecture with other subjects. The program has been an important tool for teaching citizenship and community service. The program has also included the development of mathematical concepts. Most importantly, the program has had a positive impact on the students' self-concept, their future ambitions, their appreciation of the past and how it affects the present and the future and their ability to make critical decisions about the environment, both natural and man-made. It is important for students of all ages to realize that their ideas and opinions are important and that their creative statements are worthy of exhibition in professional and academic galleries.

ETHP: Electronic The Hunger Project

E-The Hunger Project (THP) is a non-profit charitable organization incorporated in the state of California. The Hunger Project describes itself as committed to the sustainable end of world hunger. In thirteen countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America, the organization implements programs that mobilize rural grassroots communities to achieve sustainable progress in health, education, nutrition and family income. The Hunger Project has received recognition for its innovations in gender and development. Since its inception, it has also received criticism and is still controversial

E-THP: Tetrahydroprogesterone Processing

3α,5α-Tetrahydroprogesterone known as Allopregnanolone or THP, is an important neurosteroid in the human brain. It is a metabolite of progesterone and a barbiturate-like modulator of central Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid (GABA) receptors that modify a range of behaviors, including the stress response.

Allopregnanolone targets the GABA A receptor to reduce anxiety and create calm at times of stress. In the journal Nature Neuroscience, researchers led by Sheryl S Smith PhD, Professor of Physiology and Pharmacology at State University of New York Downstate Medical Center, reported findings demonstrating that the hormone allopregnanolone normally released in response to stress, actually reverses its effect at puberty and instead increases anxiety.

ETHP: E-Tetrahydropyran

Tetrahydropyran, or oxane, is the organic compound consisting of a saturated six-membered ring containing five carbon atoms and one oxygen atom.

The tetrahydropyran ring system is the core of pyranose sugars.

In organic synthesis, the 2-tetrahydropyranyl group is used as a protecting group for alcohols. Reaction of the alcohol with dihydropyran forms a tetrahydropyranyl ether, protecting the alcohol from a variety of reactions. The alcohol can later be restored readily by acidic hydrolysis with formation of 5-hydroxypentanal.

ETHP: E-Tamm-Horsfall protein

Tamm-Horsfall protein (THP), or Tamm-Horsfall mucoprotein, or uromodulin (Muchmore & Decker 1985) is a GPI-anchored glycoprotein which is not derived from blood plasma, but is produced by the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle of mammalian kidney. While the monomeric molecule has a MW of approx. 68 kD, it is physiologically present in a highly agrregated state in urine. When this protein is concentrated at low pH, it forms gel. Tamm-Horsfall protein is the most abundant protein in mammalian urine. It is the matrix of urinary casts derived from the secretion of renal tubular cells.

Uropontin, nephrocalcin and uromodulin are the 3 known urinary glycoproteins that affect the formation of calcium-containing kidney stones or calculus.

The protein was first purified by Tamm and Horsfall from the urine of healthy individuals (Tamms I & Horsfall FL, 1950). It was later detected in the urine of all mammals studied.

The function of THP is not well understood. Studies using THP deficient mice revealed that THP may have a role in regulatory physiology and actually participates in transporter function. A role in bacterial binding and sequestration is suggested by studies showing that E.coli expressing MS (mannose-sensitive) pili or fimbriae can be trapped by Tamm-Horsfall protein via its mannose-containing side chains. Tamm-Horsfall protein is part of the matrix in renal calculi but a role in kidney stone formation remains debatable. Antibodies to Tamm-Horsfall protein have been seen in various forms of nephritis (eg, Balkan nephropathy), however, it remains unclear whether there is any (patho-)physiologic relevance to these findings.

Eth

Eth (Ð, ð), also spelt edh or eð, is a letter used in Old English (Anglo-Saxon); present-day Icelandic; the Faroese alphabet, in which it is called edd; and the orthography for Scandinavian Älvdalsmål. It was also used in medieval Scandinavia, but was subsequently replaced with dh and later d. The capital eth resembles a Roman D with a line partially through the vertical stroke. The lowercase resembles a curved Roman d with a line through the top.  Eth
